The 4th annual New Year’s Day tournament took place on Monday January 1, 2018. This year we instituted a new format which shortened the time for this event from over 12 hours in the past to just 4 hours. Bowlers rolled 6 games while skipping two pairs of lanes across the house. This year we had a great turnout with 74 entries. The lane condition was kept under wraps until the morning of the tournament. We used USBC Blue #3 which is a 38″ pattern with a 3.5:1 ratio. The scoring was tough and spare shooting was at a premium. Of the 74 bowlers only 15 of them were on the plus side after the 6 games.

Craig Schoonmaker came away with the $2000 first prize as he posted a 6 game total of 1300 (216.67 ave.). In addition to the prize money, Craig also received a paid entry into the 2018 US Open direct qualifier to be held in Malone, NY in February. He also was awarded a new Ebonite bowling ball courtesy of our tournament sponsor, Ebonite International.

The Capital Region Bowling Show was in the house for the event. They taped 5 games and will broadcast these on MY4 Albany on January 7 and 14, 2018.

Bowlers came from all over. We had entries from Kingston, Utica, Malone and Oswego. There were entries from Vermont & Massachusetts.

Steve Hardy, Sr. competed and finished in 11th place. Hardy is the ABC All Events Champion for 2002 with a then record 2279.

1999 ABC Masters Champion, Brian Boghosian was also in the field. He finished in 4th place.

A total of 12 bowlers cashed.
